Govt. Withdraws Custom Duty On Imports of Telecom Equipment Government has introduced a uniform rate of custom duty on the imports of telecommunication products to further incentivize the telecommunication sector.

The new rate of 9% replaced the old rates which were 11% and 16%. According the budget document of Pakistan telecommunication is one of the main contributors to the economy of Pakistan.

The current policy of the government is the reflection of importance of telecommunication industry (RAHMAN, 2017).   Although the government had increased the duty on telecommunication in 2014 and decreased significantly now for taking the credit but the recent changes are in the great interest of overall growth of telecommunication industry.  Especially it would help 4G and 3G operators, and it will penetrate the overall market of telecommunication of Pakistan in respect of pricing as the new rate of 9% replaced the old rates which were 11% and 16% which are significantly low (RAHMAN, 2017).
